Love Vs Computers

Love is the essence of Life. In the digital era, human beings evolved, evolved, wisely evolved that they forgot the very essence of life. Love is still a part of the complex number called life. Not as a real part but as an imaginary part. Multiple definitions for Love exists in dictionaries, movies, google and computers. If you ask me "What is Love?', I would say, "It is a memory resident, boot virus". Love virus affected computers and since then........

Love is mobile. Love is wireless. Love is in air. Not in the air that you breathe in and out. Though it was buried deep inside the ground, with the burden of all the sadness and happiness in this world, it is still alive in the air high above the ground. Those who are alive could not see it. Those who were dead, they are still searching for it. Only the satellites, mobile towers or antennas can see Love. People see love in the form of signals that only their computers, laptop or TV can interpret.

We ought to possess objects and love people. But that never happens. People are tired of possessing people. So, they have started loving computers, ipods, mobiles. I love my computer too. Most of friends live in computers. Computers find us new friends, buddies, dudes, whoever or whatever. Friends are available, some times busy or away from computers. Only, when the status is 'do not disturb', the message is for us. Some stay invisible. A few always have false status messages on computers too "My computer is lying.. I am not online". :)

Like love, Computers understand many languages.Java, Mainframes, SOA, BPEL, SQL, DB2, Oracle, Wily are easy for us too, to understand than love of people. Though we write poems or article about love, all our true love lies beneath the computer keyboards. Programming has become a lot easier than humanity. When a fire alarm goes, people are busy in saving their files because they do not know how to save their lives. They panic, only when the data is gone or when there is a compilation error. When the network is down or slow, they get frustrated and show no mercy only to the 'Enter' key. People don't criticize themselves for anything, no matter how wrong it may be. All they know is 'Press any key to continue'. 'Home' should be the only key that is least used by most of us. I doubt, whether that key is noticed at least once in a day. Probably, the 'Escape' key is the one loved by all of us. Isn't it?

Even at home, we work in Microsoft's Office as though we are CEO of Microsoft. We do not have time to attend friends marriages or neighbor's home functions. We dont even bother to show up and say 'Hi'. We play ping pong, Chess, Cricket, Volley ball, foot ball everything in Computer as a single player or multiple player. We plug Ipod, DigiCams, webcams, mobiles, dvd players, USB, and play movies in a few clicks. Computer gives Real Player, Power DVD, Winamp, foobar etc for Home theater experience. It gives facebook, orkut, Linkedin, blogs for social networking and fun. Our work, our entertainment, our games, our so called love everything is in computers.

Our family lives in computers too. We set our spouse's name, lover's name as password which we often forget. We set our relationship status in Orkut as single, committed, married. Truly, Orkut has become superior to birth certificates. We say, 'Good Morning', 'Have a nice Week ahead' to all our friends each day, via forward emails as though we are programmed to do so. Family functions start with a website design and collecting email addresses and ends with a gentle email reminder. Albums are uploaded in Orkut, picasa, flickr. Memories are eternal, when they are stored in computers and they are always available online. Monthly expenses, Loans, Bank Accounts, Insurance policies, Credit Cards, daily schedules, alarms, birthday reminders, etc. etc. everything is in computers.

Computers are in fact a good replacement for love. The first one is difficult to find. But, once you find one, you will find more smarter ones, just around the corner. Computers can be considered as synonym for Love. Only difference, I could see is, unlike love, Computers are found everywhere. Trees, Crows, Ants, flowers, vegetables everything will learn to live with computers in future because the future itself is certain only for computers.Giga bytes have become temple and Tera bytes have become the God. Antivirus and Firewall are other Gods too. No wonder, soon someone may claim that God and Computers are twins. May be, Love will get a new definition as 'The Twelfth Generation computers'.

What is Love? It is a nice post ;) No, No.. You are getting it wrong again. It is what computers have become.

Mother to Her Child

Your wishes I declined..
The moments I was unkind..
I cry for all those memories
you left behind.

Your words ring in my ears
My eyes are now frozen tears
When will I see you dear?
I know, heaven is not so near.

Life without you is a pain
I feel it in my every vein
COME, let’s dance in the rain
Or, Mummy will not ….. talk to you again.

The masterpiece comes only from the master ;)

The Rockfort Express Will be Arriving Shortly ...

It was a noisy and hot friday, the 17th of April. I ran at the last moment to catch the 6.45PM bus. As the bus moved towards the gate, I could see a lot of smiling faces seated near the window. They were all looked happy. They should also be going to their native tonight, I said to myself. But, that didn't give me any reason to feel happy. I missed the bus by ten lazy seconds. I waited for the 7:30PM bus and more importantly, I had to reach Egmore before 10:30PM.

It was around 8:45PM then and I knew, I could not rely on town buses. So, I boarded on an auto rickshaw. For some reasons, the auto and the driver looked familiar to me. The auto had a strange number on it '6177' and with the name "Trailblazer" written on the front. The driver had Nokia 5611 and he was talking to his girl friend. He was explaining to her that they were married two thousand centuries before. He told, he waited for her outside the office around 6:30PM on the same day. He spoke stupendous words as though he always lives in his imagination. I then realized, fiction and imagination are part of real life. It was a pleasure listening to his conversations though it was a bit noisy on the roads. It reminded me about Love which I had forgotten years ago. The driver dropped me at the station around 10:10PM. To me, he is a safe driver though he charged ten rupees extra than what the meter said.

As I said earlier, it was a noisy day. Noise is like alcohol to the mind. We ought to look for peace and stability all through the noises of life. When I was thinking about this in the fiction of my mind, I heard this loud and noisy announcement from behind "Rockfort Express will be arriving shortly on Platform number 3". It was 10:20PM. The announcement went for the second time. My adrenaline went high on blood and I really wanted to hit the announcer right on her face. I was standing there on platform 3 with an unhappy and deeply troubled mind. I looked all around. None of the people around me remained quiet. They were all chatting, talking to their friends or playing with their new ringtones. They looked like all dancing, all singing, crap of the world. Thanks to Tyler Durden. The announcement went on air for the third time. It continued like a long and incessant beep sound.

Then, there existed silence for a fraction of split second around 10:23PM. I heard her humming from behind. She did not break the silence. She did not stop the other noises. She was humming beneath her breathes. But still, I could hear that voice, the most beautiful voice in this wide world. It was not AR Rahman's 'Jai Ho'. Her voice itself was a music to me. I should say, it was where Mozart failed. It was so divine. Like a butterfly flittering from one flower to another, she looked through my eyes.By chance, she didn't look away for a second. Her eyes looked like the pinnacle of nature's beauty. She blinked her right eye to let down a drop of sweat bead floating on her eye brow. It did not fall. In fact, it did not want to fall.

We stood like one of the railway tracks there, waiting for the train and separated by a small distance. I marvelled at every beautiful second, I spent, waiting for the train. The train reached and halted around 10:26PM. I slowly moved towards my compartment SX10. Just like that, she was gone. There were no noises in my mind. I was conscious but without any thoughts. I sat near the window and started looking out for her. What happens only in movies, happened in real life and that too to me on that day. To my surprise, she was sitting next to me. I looked at her, slightly thrilled inside and with a smile. She smiled back at me which was so fast that even a humming bird would not follow. Her magic was seated on her smile.

The journey of 316 kilometres started with a big smile around 10:40PM. The train was delayed by 10 mintues that day. Though she looked tired, she did not go to sleep directly. She started reading books. It was a book on Poems, written by one of the world famous poetesses. I do not remember the name but I remember the Auto driver mentioning the poetess's name to his friend in Mumbai over the phone. I didnt sleep either. I was watching all her activities and she noticed that too. My feelings for her was almost palpable. I was waiting to call my mom at 12'O Clock to wish her "Happy Birthday".

'Jai Ho' song came from her upper berth exactly at 12 AM. 'yes Amma' she whishpered slowly. "Happy Birthday Madhu" - A chorus reply came from the other end. I could hear that loud and clear. My heart started beating faster. It started slowly at first and then accelerated. I dwelt in the state of undescribable bliss for 2 reasons. Her name is 'Madhu' too and she celebrates her birthday with my mom - April 18th. I spoke to my Mom around 12:15 and wished her. April 18th has always been a special day in my life. That year, it was extra special and more memorable.

Time passed 2AM. There were no more noises. Even the noise created by the passing trains seemed to be a distant melody. I could not sleep. I heard the words "Bring back The FIREWALL" as if spoken inside my chest. But, I could not. She had cut through all the mental resistances of mine and she was staying there in my thoughts. I was rewinding and playing the scenes that happened from the moment i saw her at the station and until i found her full name on the passenger list. The love seed which she sown in my heart started to sprout in my sub-conscious mind.It was around 3AM and I felt asleep in the unceasing rhythm of time.

I was awakened by the distant announcement "Rockfort Express will be arriving shortly on platform number 1". It was around 5:30AM in the morning. It took me a while to remember where I was. Train had crossed Srirangam, Ponmalai and was moving slowly towards Trichy Junction. The compartment looked more drab and empty. Just like that, she was gone again. I had nothing to worry. I had to remind myself that 'some birds are not meant to be caged'. I hoped to meet her again. After all, it's a sumaaal world. Isn't it? It was 5:40AM. I could see lot of happy faces. I was happy too. Trr..tring Trring..... Call from my home. "Kokki, where you at?". I did not reply. My mom could hear the announcement - "Rockfort Express has arrived on Platform number 1". Happy April 18th :)

Disclaimer: Except my mom's birth date, everything is fictional.

Why do we fall?

Why do we fall? Is gravity responsible for it? Is it the result of any unbalanced force acting on us from within or outside? Is it simply because fate wants others to laugh at us? Or is it because of the mysterious and magical love?

A fall could make us laugh or cry. When somebody physically falls in front of us, most of the time, we laugh at least for a second, trying to hide our expressions. If the same happens to us, we feel ashamed of ourselves, get up and move on as though we do not mind others watching on us. In either case, a fall gives us a lesson. Falling is a part in the process of learning. Everytime we fall, we learn to pick ourselves up.

When we talk about 'fall', the best example i could think of is a child. When a child first attempts to stand up on his own, he obviously falls down. What happens next? The child looks around. Is he looking for his Mom or Dad to help? Is he ashamed of himself? No, the child actually learns to mind his surroundings when he falls. The child remembers how he failed and what made him fall. Next time, he gets the grip from the walls or any object and tries to stand up again and in a few attempts he succeeds.

As grown up and matured minds, we fall more number of times than a child does on a single day. If someone meets someone, the next moment, they fall in love :D . We fall away in our thoughts. We fall back our promises. We fall behind time, at work and chase our dead lines. We fall out over our responsibilities. We fall for money and finally we fall through life. Apart from this, we fall especially at the entrance of the office :), while walking on steps, boarding bus or when hit by an auto-rikshaw. Though we are alive, we do not live every moment. Isn't it?

Do we still have the child's spirit in us? How many times do we try before we give up? How much sweat do we shed to achieve our goals? A setback or failure is nothing more than a fall. Ofcourse, a setback can bring in a little sadness. But, sadness is not a bad thing at all. It is a healthy emotion and it is different from depression. The road to success will have some sharp bends, ups and downs. Everytime we fall, we need to bounce back. Instead of worrying about the problems, focus on the solution. As you do, you move towards your goal, as surely as day follows night.

Next time, when you fall or fail, mind your surroundings. There is a scope for learning all the time and in all the situations. Let's learn from our mistakes
and soon others will start to learn from our success.

Repeat - Why do we fall? To learn to pick ourselves up.
